Kamila Siwinska is an acclaimed opera and drama director who seamlessly bridges the boundary between lyric theatre and fine-art photography. A graduate of both the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań (2007) and the prestigious Theatre Academy in Warsaw (2013), she has developed a distinctive, monumental visual language that defines her contemporary Gesamtkunstwerk (Total Work of Art).
Her visionary approach to the Baroque and twentieth-century repertoire is epitomized by her most recent, critically acclaimed production of Henry Purcell’s semi-opera "The Fairy Queen" at the Polish Royal Opera (2026). This extraordinary, multi-level staging seamlessly synthesizes three distinct worlds, remains profoundly faithful to Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream", and serves as a masterclass in modern visual conception.
Her extensive operatic portfolio includes highly praised productions of Benjamin Britten’s masterworks, notably "The Rape of Lucretia" (Polish Royal Opera, 2021) and "The Turn of the Screw" (Polish Royal Opera, 2022), alongside innovative musical spectacles such as Britten’s "Let's Make an Opera! The Little Sweep" (Polish Royal Opera, 2018). In 2024, she brought her striking visual signature to the Opera Wrocławska with a production of Zbigniew Rudziński’s contemporary opera "The Mannequins", capturing the surrealist, haunting atmosphere of Bruno Schulz’s "The Cinnamon Shops".
Her artistic versatility spans across musical and theatrical eras. She made her early breakthrough in ancient drama and contemporary opera synthesis with Euripides’ "The Trojan Women" at the Polish Theatre in Poznań (2016), combining traditional ensemble movements with electronic scores and operatic soloists. Her dedication to avant-garde forms is further evidenced by her staging of Egon Wellesz’s opera-infused "Die Bakchantinnen", which won the prestigious First Prize from the Polish Ministry of Culture for Best Performance at the Forum of Young Directors in Kraków (2013). She has also staged progressive new writing at major repertoire institutions, including Stanisław Lem's "Needles" at the National Forum of Music. Her work gained swift international recognition early in her career, earning the prestigious Grand Prix and Audience Prize at the Festival of International Student Theatre in Belgrade.
